Diversity in Organizations
There are several aspects to organization diversity. In recent years there has been an outburst of women and minorities in organizations. This chapter discusses some of the challenges they face in the workplace.
Stereotypes- a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing.
Stereotypes- a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing.
This meme is of Dwight and Pam during a Diversity Day exercise, Pam uses a stereotype to describe the race that is taped to Dwight's head, while Dwight responds with another stereotype of the female gender.
Tokenism- women and people of color in managerial positions is pretty rare to find; so when they are in a higher up position, they become a "token" of their gender or ethnic background.

Prejudice- refers to negative attitudes towards an organization member based on his/her culture group identity.
Michael treats Oscar Martinez differently because he is Mexican and gay, Michael's misconceived prejudices of Oscar make it hard for Oscar to work in this environment.
Discrimination- treatment or making a distinction in favor of or against, a person or thing based on the group, class, or category to which that person or thing belongs rather than on individual merit.
This is an example of discrimination, Michael Scott refuses to go on a date with Phyllis' friend because she is overweight.
Mommy track- women who were assumed to want flexible work arrangements and family support in exchange for fewer opportunities for advancement.
And finally, here is how Diversity can be applied in all the individual Managerial Approaches in the textbook:
